Keeping it Real

October 31, 2017 by

Zone V tour into Plymouth have been cancelled since the passage of hurricane Maria. Having an inability to provide an excursion to four different tours this week would love to have open communication to the situation.

The season has started, and we have been waiting 8 long weeks for our income to return. I cannot express the disappointment, and frustration we feel largely based on a lack of communication. Words like”soon, later, sometime, check back with me….” are not communication!

As private business owners here in Montserrat we are expected to have all our ducks in a row. IF we have made a mistake or do something that was not okay, we hear about it, are reprimanded, and expected to never make that error again (Have you ever gone to customs with a receipt rather then a document that says “invoice”)

If any of us in the private sector operated like the government not only would our business fail, the government itself would not welcome us here. Yet the various branches of government seem to have no one that holds people accountable, or takes responsibility.

Those in certain offices have secretaries and clerks to assist, but rather then training them to assist and provide the necessary help and facilitating an efficient and smoothly run office They allow their staff sit busily playing candy crush. Or worse they give their staff unnecessary “busy” work. Some staff are talented and if given an opportunity could make necessary changes to allow the entire office to be 10 times more efficient. But instead of being given that opportunity many staff are more concerned with making sure the entry level staff simply does what they are told.

I could continue my rant for sometime I think. Probably have enough material to go on late into the night. I must stop and ask myself what would that do? Would it be helpful for me? Would it be helpful for my family? Will it be helpful for my neighbors? I think the answer is no to all of those. All though venting and getting something off my chest can have a positive effect briefly when I take the time to dwell, meditate, rehearse my frustration in regards to a situation I have no control over it leads to hopelessness, sorrow, and anger.

Scripture tells us in Philippines 4: 8 “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Scripture also calls us to Trust God above all man. “Seek Yea First the Kingdom of God”

So I am frustrated, I am angry, but I am going to make a feeble attempt here to sincerely be thankful and meditate on what is good and commendable.

If you are like I am today, and hopelessness is trying to set up house, or anger is turning you a vibrant red and steam is about to come fourth from your ears. Then please join me, and lets put Christ first and choose to submit our request to Jesus, then be thankful, and finally meditate on the good.

My Prayer:

Father in heaven, I give this stuff to you. I know you have my back, you have sent your angels to remove stones from my path less I stub my toe. You care for me so much more then anyone on the planet, and I have been blessed to be the receiver of a lot of love.

Please Father forgive me for allowing anger to overtake me (even if it may be brief). Thank-you for loving me enough to teach me these things that I may become more like you. That I can reflect your love to my immediate family, those who see and witness me and my true self more then anyone else. May those people see you in and through me.

Father Thank-you for the Emerald Isle. Thank-you for bringing me to this beautiful land and placing this land in my heart. Thank you for my wonderful husband who is a product of this island who knows how to love you, love his family, and be a Godly man that you created him to be. Thank-you for the creative people that are on these shores. Thank-you for the generosity and kindness of our neighbors. Thank-you for low property taxes! Thank-you for a volcano that brings people to these shores from all over the world. We also thank-you that the volcano has been quiet and pray that it continues to stay that way. Thank-you for beaches, mangos, mountains, and safety! Thank-you for a safe place to raise our children! Thank-you for a place that encourages and grows imaginations.

I choose to be thankful, I choose to remind myself of your Truths, and I choose to be a blessing to my family, particularly my husband who most often receives the worst of my venting.

If you stuck with me this long, leave a comment, or a prayer, or scripture. Love and Blessings!

Well said, Kristina! I would love to get this post into the hands of the right people who would actually DO something. In the end, I guess it will take, after much testing of patience, which is indeed a necessary virtue, a miracle or some divine intervention to enable the powers that be here on the Emerald Isle to gain the ability to implement the changes that need to be made…whatever they may be. So We continue to do what we CAN do, and pray.

I feel your pain, Kristina. As you probably know, my family & I lived in Montserrat for many years and it’s unfortunate that in many instances, things involving government were typically tied-up in bureaucracy and true progress was often very difficult to gauge. Not that larger countries aren’t plagued by the same issue, but it seems that in a place as small as Montserrat, things are magnified and can become all the more frustrating.

The positive thing is that you have the correct [Godly] perspective. Scripture and Prayer are the greatest tools we have at our disposal.

On an unrelated note, my brother [Gary] leaves for Montserrat tomorrow for a three week trip to do repairs on our former family home in Old Towne. I hope he has a chance to see you & your family as well as your in-laws.

    Blessings!

      Thank-you for your comment :)

My current plan is every time I feel the frustration start to kick in to go and re read my thankfulness, and add to it. I must say after doing this yesterday my spirit was lifted and I was able to just let go and let God. God is soooooo soooo good!

That is great about Gary visiting! We will have to see him and catch up. Blessings

        Aloha Kristina,

You most certainly have the right perspective and wisdom to seek God for His Divine Wisdom and leading.

Gary is on his way! He texted us a short while ago from Miami and is due to arrive in M’rat this afternoon at approximately 5:00. He will have been travelling/in transit for approximately 20-or-so hours so he will be wiped out and will likely need to hibernate for an entire day. I mentioned to him that I mentioned to you that he was heading to the Island and he is excited to see your family:) …I very much wish I could have joined him on this trip, but I’m committed to looking after our mom, now 92. Apart from that, I’m self-employed so I don’t have paid vacation leave, so it’s difficult to afford getting away… Gary’s mobile number is: xxx xxx xxxx but his iPhone may not work over there; he’ll likely obtain a phone from C&W while there. His email is: xxxxxxxx. I reckon you know where our family’s home is in Old Towne; Sunny knows the house.

I trust the situation with your excursion business sorts itself out with regards to Government and that it turns out to be a great season for you all!

        Blessings,

        Carrll
